Mapping the Mangroves (MTM) is a project by MapWorks Learning and is an exciting and innovate toolkit that combines a mobile app and companion website, designed to promote citizen science in the conservation and scientific studies of mangroves forests, a critically important ecosystem. The app allows anyone with a smart device the ability to identify mangroves species, analyze biodiversity and plot field observations onto a real-time map. Mapping the Mangroves has been used by school groups, scientists and environmental organizations across the globe, including Qatar, Brazil, Costa Rica, Palau, Papua, Penang, the United States and Australia.

Mapping the Mangroves is a project focused on increasing awareness, promoting conversations, and fostering action around preservation of the world’s mangroves and was made possible through support and funding from Qatar Foundation International (QFI). A not-for-profit organization, QFI, LLC is a U.S. - based member of Qatar Foundation.
